My DNA confirms this as well. They give country matches, but I didn’t get Pakistan nor did I get India. They also give Punjab (Pakistan) or Punjab (India), but I didn’t get those either. I’d call myself culturally or linguistically Punjabi, but I don’t speak it, plus I’m really whitewashed. All my cultural practices stem from religious ones (Islam). I have zero right to call myself Punjabi, it’s just easier to call myself South Asian, although 75% of my genome is West Eurasian.

Wow, I didn’t see it! I hadn’t checked many notifications in the last few weeks. Thanks for bringing my attention to it, I’ll give it a look.

No, not Romani. I’m still South Asian, but I am closer to ethnic groups like Sindhis than I am to Punjabis. But I am not Sindhi either. They live hundreds of KMs away from us.

We have always called ourselves Punjabi, but there is no genetic basis for it. It’s completely geographical.

Only recently did we discover that we moved there, and that we’ve been settled there for at least 200 years. And then later, my DNA test confirmed this as well. It’s pretty interesting.
