Everyone is shallow. Better to be shallow for material things that you can actually work for than for things you can't control. At least "materialistic" girls reward hard work and contributing to society. Liking someone for "who they are" is just liking them for their looks.

These girls that have a deadbeat drug addicted abusive boyfriend like him for "who he is". They reward an awful man for existing just because they like how he looks. If most women were materialistic it would be better. At least good behaviour would be rewarded and incentivized.
