I've never been respected before, the concept of maintaining a reputation is completely alien to me. I am mentally conditioned to associate failure with laughter and people smiling or apathy and neglect rather than disastrous consequences, humiliation, or setbacks/wasted time

Yep and it’s impossible to transition into adulthood this way. Suddenly you’re expected to uphold a reputation, have real social skills and actually be competent. None of these are achievable for me
