Usually leftist claim to have nuanced takes but this Palestine Israel conflict has been a mask off moment and I'm very disappointed in the discourse in leftist communities. It truly is treated like a sports team. And it has made me realize they truly just virtue signal and don't really have compassion or empathy.
On the left you will only see people posting about dead Palestinians and the horrible things Israel is doing. On the right you only see people posting about dead Israelis and the horrible things Hamas is doing. Basically anything that confirms their bias is good and anything that doesn't is bad.
The left will defend killing and raping innocent people because the Palestinians are oppressed. This is just absurd to me, as killing random people doesn't help their liberation, in fact it hurts them as they lose a lot of sympathy from foreigners. This also gives Israel an excuse to do whatever they want. Which is why I'm not totally opposed to the conspiracy theory that Israel let this happen, free atrocity propaganda.
If you truly want liberation you should be more strategic with your targets. Nothing was gained by the Hamas attacks. Attack soldiers or strategic bases, not innocent civilians.
Another thing I see people keep bringing up is various stats about how more Palestinians have died in the conflicts compared to Israelis. This is such a nonsense justification, you can use that same logic to defend Nazi Germany because more Germans died in the war. Or for a more recent example the Russia Ukraine war, leftists support Russia, however far more Ukrainians have died than Russians so based on their logic with Israel they should support Ukraine, which they don't.
You don't have to pick a side in every conflict. Israel is a bourgeois colonial state trying to displace the Palestinian people, and Hamas is an anti communist nationalist right wing islamic group.
