Go research irish elk. And it's mainly bc the females were breeding way too fast for adaption to catch up. The underdeveloped ones would not be bred for anyway so things would lean in future generations to genetic recombinations of the father's. The fathers being the ones with oversized antlers. The bone tissue would grow too fast for any adaption elsewhere.
