committed suicide are punished in the Second Round of the Seventh Circle of Hell, commonly known as the Wood of the Suicides. In this space, souls are transformed into thorny, gnarled trees because they threw away their right to a human body, and therefore are denied one in eternity.

- The Transformation: Suicides are encased in trees, trapping them and preventing them from having a human form.
- Torment by Harpies: Hideous bird-creatures with the faces of women, known as Harpies, nest in the trees and eat their leaves, causing broken branches and bleeding wounds.
- Speaking Through Pain: The souls can only speak and express their grief when their branches are broken and they are bleeding, meaning they can only vocalize through their own pain.
- Eternity in the Wood: They are denied the return of their bodies even after the Last Judgment, unlike other damned souls.
