In Germany height varies vastly by region

Hamburg the average heigth is 183cm, meanwhile Saarland only 173cm.

And Germany is a small country, so imagine how big the regional differences in massive countries like USA is.

Thats why discussions about average height are useless, just stick to what you experience irl and make the decision yourself. Don't listen to the opinions of people living in completly different regions.
