What if this same doctor wouldn't have intervened in this case, but did the 'standard procedure'. Probably sending them to some sort of foster home where, based on the (mental) issues these boys already had, they would likely live absolutely dreadful lives. Bullied and neglected, socially isolated. And then write a study on the consequences of that. How many of the boys end up as depressed malfunctional human beings, committing suicide, etc.

There were mostly only going to be losers here, no matter what was done or what intervention was made.
