Historically, blackpill can be broken into 3 distinct phases:

Phase 0 (1980s - 2008):

The pre-blackpill era, where lonely men were still bluepilled and incels paid for PUA courses in hopes to get laid.

Important events: Love-shy.net, Alana's incel project, PUAs, Redpill is born, Anti-feminism, game, frame, seduction, Cho.

The increasing criticism of Pick-Up artists and redpill concepts marks the end of this era.

Phase 1: Proto-Blackpill (~2009 - 2014):

Important events: PUAhate, Sluthate, ER, looks redpill, Orb, ForeverAlone, Incels, Chads/Stacies, r/theredpill - redpill goes mainstream, r/incels, mewing

Generally, this stage ends with ER, though it continues for a bit longer with Sluthate since blackpill isn't a widely used term yet.

Phase 2: Rise of Inceldom (~2015 - 2019)

ER was the first time that incels entered mainstream media, and the Blackpill entered mainstream use. Multiple documentaries by MSM focusing specifically on incels, widespread fear that ER would be repeated and talks of an "incel revolution" were common. Incels were seen as a genuine threat to society. Blackpill content was also gaining popularity on YouTube at this point.

Important events: Blackpill as genetic determinism, Lookism.net, FaceandLMS, Alek Minassian, r/incels is shut down, Saint Hamudi, Saint DBDR, r/braincels, incels.is, ITV, PSL scales, Objective rating metrics, looks maxxing, BBC docu on incels, /r9k/ becomes blackpilled, Eggman goes viral, r/inceltears, SeargentIncel debates feminist, Whitepill, Purplepill, Pinkpill

Generally, this period ends with the shutdown of lookism.net, r/braincels and its evasion subs like r/shortcels all being banned.

Phase 2.5: Cooldown (~2020 - 2022)

Once lookism.net died and r/braincels got banned, there was a cooldown period of the blackpill. It left mainstream discourse for a while and resided in niche online forums. The redpill and Andrew Tate took spotlight during this time

Important Events: looksmax.org, incels.is becomes largest incel community, looksmaxxers start ascending, Wheat Waffles, Qoves Studio

Phase 3: Normie invasion (~2023 - Present)

Possibly the worst phase of the blackpill so far

Important events: James Sapphire, Dillon L, Looksmaxxing edits, Tiktok and IG explosion, .org goes mainstream, "bp" edits, Cookieverse, Blackpill becomes a trend/aesthetic for teenagers, Indian looksmaxxers
