In public toilets I cover the toilet with like 4 layers of toilet paper before I sit down though so I don't touch it directly.

The toilet paper is contaminated though. I also do it like this but standing while shitting is much more clean.

Actually in Paris most public toilets are really just holes in the floor. You have to stand while taking a crap. And they expect you to buy a bottle of water before you can use their hole in the ground.

How is the paper contaminated? As long as you throw away the part the last person touched it should be fine

Because every time people flush the toilet the wind stream will fill the room with bacteria from the toilet which will then go into the toilet paper. I have read articles about it. Therefore they recommend to stand while shitting and bringing your own toilet paper if possible.
