As long as you were not doing bad things outside, they were ok with you being a social outcast.
That's one of the worst things that can happen to a kid/teen, they should focuse on having a good social life, friends, just as much as getting good grades at school.
The problem is that many parents have this dumb dicotomy: outgoing kid doing shit things outside vs non outgoing kid that, while not having a social life, "at least aren't giving their parents a bad name".
A balanced life is ideal, why is hard for them to understand?
Tons of kids have social lifes, while still being decent citizens and good students.
