let me guess it is because in the north there is more of European alternating weather (hence the winter, which affects emotions) and in the south there is a more traditional way of life when Italians focus on living in the family.

Yes the weather in the north is slightly different, life is more stressful I think, people work a lot more. But as you can see there are outliers in the south that have the same suicide rate as Lombardy, and then of course Sardinia, where we have southern italian weather but isolation + different genetics + different culture
