Looking at the map in the 40s (pre partition), the strategic location is eminent
Post independence, it was important for recently victorious Allied powers to disrupt the region. The weather in 1947, USSR was getting very powerful and the Chinese civil war was about to culminate in Mao's reign over the country. So, it was a great buffer state in the region in the war of Capitalism vs Communism. There is a long history then to now that I could explain but this site is too aspie to get into that so cliffs:
a. Great buffer region
b. Military spending in the region
c. Satellite states of various powers at various times in history (Pakistan an American and Chinese stooge, India a Soviet stooge till the 90s, Now Pakistan a Chinese stooge, India aligning according to the time but failing miserably)
d. Cold war era-vassal states for capitalism vs communism, current era-Crony Capitalism vs State Capitalism games
e. Communal tensions were a strategy adopted by British Raj after the 1857 sepoy mutiny to keep their hold over British India and that manifested itself 90 years later in a bloody partition made easy through that and adversary nations in a strategic location making two great vantage points for proxy wars by superpowers
f. Its just a filthy game similar to Korea, Vietnam, Palestine-Israel, Eastern Western European blocs etc, so its cuckoldery and pandering to self interests of other bastards (cronies, russians, chinks etc) to have passionate feelings of hate against the other.
