He should have checked the label first, some products containing alcohol are harmless like medicinal antiseptic solutions, others can have additional dangerous substances. Many poor people drink medicinal alcohol in my country, I remember that some years ago some Arabs bought a company that produced medicinal alcohol but they changed the formula and added toxic methanol in it, causing the death of dozens of people - mostly beggars and homeless people.
