It feels so alien and yet so rooted and oridinary at the same time, in sharp contrast to Greco -Roman sculpture which idealised realism and contrapposto while Indian scultpure has a more stable feel to it, rooted in ithe real dentity of Self while the Greek always strives to retain and further identity of the Ego.

those buddhas are Greco-Roman in origin, they were first made by Greek sculptors in the successor states of Alexander the Great, starting around the time of the conversion of the king Melander to Buddhism
