The point of things like neoliberalism and libertarianism despite all their rose coloured jargon is not actually about power of the individual nor freedom nor abolishment of a government, it’s about replacing government with the market (ergo: the market would be the government but we’d just call it the market instead of government).

Bankers and other people high up in business like in oil despite all their “conservative” muscle talk or “liberal” rainbow copes in public consistently work collectively to get what they want, constantly seek/influence government for aid be it in policy, finance/investment or outright positions in the government. Most innovation is currently financed by public funds (tax) given to private playgrounds. So you can buy IPhones at an overpriced value while a portion of your money has been used to innovate the crap that is underneath the phone. All this babbling about “smaller government” by neoliberals (both right and left wing are neoliberals) is essentially just big government for big business. Nobody has ever made government less big, they just shifted the governments focus away from the interest of the public and make government often work against the public.

Nobody in or leading to the crash of 2008 for example remotely cared about “individual responsibility”. They just collectively scammed the general public by pushing shady products/services, while governments were slapping positive ratings on that shit, and when that went bust, they collectively robbed the general public to save themselves, and blamed everyone else for being a lazy socialist that messed everything up and would bankrupt society if they received money or aid.
