"Individualism" was made up by the elites to brainwash the population into thinking their individual life choices matter in the bigger scheme of things and that their place isn't set in stone as a result of genetics and social stratification, and so that people are easier to control since individualists are less likely to rally behind group identities. Literally nobody except the elites benefit from individualist ideology. Individual people don't matter to the economy so only collectivist ideologies make sense for ordinary people.
