So i work for the city as a electrical helper, and they changed the rules because some worker last year died, he got over-run by a big work truck in a tunnel, the driver claimed he didnt see him. So from now on we need to carry these big work lights and setup by the area, but these oldschool lights weigh about 25 pounds each and feel heavy aftera while of carrying along with other equipment, not only that you need to clip them on to live power train tracks. If you clip them on the wrong sides it will lead to explosion you could lose your hand or arm. But the city and agency had a battery powered lights that are issued that are 10 pounds and are not only lighter they are easier to use and chnage direction of the light, and you don't need to clip them to any train tracks. My mechanic who is above me in rank requested to i supervisor to put in a order to get them but, or department is very lazy with supplies and our supervisor said we most likely wont get the lights.
Turns out the lights cost 300 dollars usa, if you buy them from a hardware store, you can get them approved by your supervisor. The crew is four of us two helpers and two mechanics, we sometimes work with another crew who shift goes into ours and the finish work two hours before we do. These guys were putting pressure on me to use my own money to buy the light, i told them no the agency is suppose to provide it iam not spending my money. Then one guy says ye till your hands and fingers get blown off. The other helper they barley said shit to him, he has higher seniority and has higher social standing and is well liked by everyone. We leave to head out to do our work duties and one of the mechanics is upset with me saying why don't you want to buy it, im sure you pay money for food and pc games and other things, but to get something that will make the job safer. I straight up told him NOOOO. Dude said iam just looking out for your safety.
This bullshit talk, these folks think iam stupid and don't understand social dynamics. They want a sucker to spend their money on the lights so, the job is easier FOR THEM. Because with the oldschool lights there needs to be a mechanic/helper with the other person setting up the lights. They didn't get upset with the other helper because they like him and respect him, much more. The other helper then decided he was gonna order the lights with hes own money. If these guys bring up a stink about it im gonna set these folks straight, And tell them how i spend or use my money has nothing to do with anybody. Remember folks never let folks treat you like a sucker or a fool, they can't make you do shit that you don't want to do.
