I used to read loads of books but stopped in my mid teens, which is unfortunate because that was when I was beginning to attain the mental capacity to understand and appreciate great literature.
I started watching loads of films at that time and became a movie buff but I feel I missed out on a great hobby by falling out of the habit of reading.
A few months ago I read American Psycho which is supposed to be a masterpiece but maybe it went over my head because I thought it was good, but kind of silly sometimes. I appreciated the comedy in it but I found it hard to identify the themes that were obviously present in the film. Maybe I'm just not smart enough idk.
I also read most of the Bible and thought it was really good.
Anyway, I want to get back into the habit by reading a great book; I just finished school so want a new hobby.
I've found these charts from 4chan and Pinterest of excellent novels, and there are a few books I'm leaning towards:
Blood Meridian because I just replayed rdr1 and am in Western mode at the moment.
The Brothers Karamazov because I have always loved pre-Soviet Russian history and aesthetics. Although I have heard that you should start with Dostoyevsky's other works before reading it.
The Catcher in the Rye and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas because I own both of them.
Any reccomendations?
