Another problem people have is being narcy. Wanting to have forum beef or portray themselves as some character to get tons of updoots, then their controversial shit comes up in a dox and its over. I post my face here cause i act the same way here as i do irl :Comfy:

You can do the image IP grab with a fake spoiler tag, just screenshot one (very easy with Firefox Screenshots), upload it and insert the link on it, not a single soul will suspect it.

Speaking of spoilers, using spoilers is crucial when publicly posting sensitive information that you might want to delete later on, as if the content is spoilered it won’t be accesible if someone archives the page using archive.today (it will if they use Wayback Machine tho) and you will draw less attention to it.

^This is for you narcy niggas that can’t resist the urge to post their faces publicly, but don’t want their pics being up on the Internet forever :feelshaha:

Also on forums that don’t have a CDN (content delivery network) like Lookism was, it is even easier to grab IPs, all you have to do is create a grabify link of an image, then put it between image tags like this:
Code:
[IMG]https://************/NCVQ7T[/IMG]

This would be the result:
https://************/NCVQ7T

If this forum didn’t have a CDN I would have the IPs of everyone who loaded the image above and they would not even realize it :ROFLMAO:
who cares in my country it takes 5 minute of reset to network for gaining new ip

Serious tho what do you guys write on here that’s so controversial?

This thread is incomplete and serves as a draft/outline for a more in-depth post later on

To preface this post, I'm aware this is all self-evident to most users. Common sense is is the number 1 factor in preventing yourself from getting doxxed.
It should be noted that even if your information easily accessed, you generally wont be a victim of doxxing if you avoid making enemies online.

Just to get these out of the way:
-Don't publicly post your face or location information
-Don't specify where you work
-If it's necessary to share a little personal info, keep it vague
-Again, just use common sense
With those aside, lets get into things.

Doxxing is a threat (new users)
On multiple occasions I have seen new users stroll into this forum, post their face and beg for ratings, talk proudly about their irl endeavors, then act surprised when someone goes out of their way to dox them. It doesn't seem to occur to some new users that this may even be a threat, and 3 months down the line they end up begging the mods to delete their old posts. Peoples lives have been ruined by doxing, for both victims and as attackers. Don't take it lightly.

Lets not forget this case: http://grifflittlehaleisaracist.com/

Building a profile
When it comes to doxxing, it all starts with minor leads. There's no single starting point for doxxing and it varies greatly. You gather what little information you have on a person, and branch out gathering more information until a profile begins to develop. What places does this person communicate? What parts of the internet does this user hang around on? What are their interests, hobbies? Has the user mentioned which University they attend? Which male models do they worship, liking their every posts with their personal Instagram accounts? It's all a process of searching for, building up, and narrowing down information.

  • One of the worst mistakes you can make is using the same/similar username for every service
  • Avoid creating any obvious similarities between accounts
It might be okay if you are careful enough with what you reveal, but if you'd prefer for people not to track you down from platform to platform, avoid this. As a general rule, if you want it to be hard for people to search for you, use a not so unique username. I personally have a fairly unique username, and search engines will display results for my looksmax account, but if my name was "Adderal Addict", all you'd get is websites documenting/discussing adderal abuse. A unique username can be fine(still not recommended), just ensure you don't use it anywhere else.

Baiting the user
We all know the basics of internet security, but we often blow them off because they are such basic rules... This tendency can prove fatal.

When you've done your digging but need to get more info or confirm what you do have, you can get it directly from the user in a couple ways. Often, it's effective to build a relationship with the user if you arent already enemies. If you are careful and patient, you can gradually attain more info about a person directly. Prying too hard can be fatal for you as the doxxer, the moment they become suspicious, such an avenue has already failed.

  • It shouldn't have to be mentioned, but be weary of other users.

In the thread below, I make mention of an instance where this happened:
https://looksmax.org/threads/the-norwegian-accent.4865883/

.
.

If you clicked the link above, you just fucked up one of the most basic rules of internet security. Many forums and websites like this one allow for users to insert links with separate text being displayed. With this: harmful links, ip-grabbers, browser fingerprinters, etc. can all be disguised as something innocent. The same can be applied to images; I can post an image that, when clicked, directs you to a link:

I can remember 2 instances where users fell victim to this.
Always check where an image/link leads to at the bottom-left-corner of the browser.

  • Be cautious of everything you click

Finding communication patterns
We all tend to have our own posting styles, some are bland, some are instantly recognizable. When doxxing, once you find out where a given person is likely to be posting/chatting, you can begin the search by looking for key terms/phrases that user in particular uses. Of course, look for any personal info revealed that matches up with the original person.
I remember one instance where I was looking for the account of a person in a discord server I suspected them of using, I didn't have much of a lead, but I knew they were an outspoken democratic socialist and an animal crossing fan, the latter proved to be what really helped me find their account.

  • Avoid making too much mention of your interests across platforms
If you really like talking about yourself, make sure that your personal info cant be dug up on different accounts/platforms either.

The Details
The details are what you want to focus on hiding, since the small details that add up are what builds the profile.
This is a table that is used by those attempting to dox, but reading over it will give you an idea of what kind of info you need to hide. Especially consider your family members being the weak link, make sure they know you don't want them posting all about you online.

RelativesHow open is the relationship between (X) and blood/legal relatives? What could a stranger, having information on just one person in this network, discover about the others in the network, etc?
PoliticsDoes (X) discuss or post about political beliefs online? If so, on which platforms?
Friends and CommunityIf (X) has social media, make note of friends, followers. In what ways does (X) online communities reflect (X) offline communities?
HobbiesWhat hobbies does (X) have? Does (X) have friends and community through them? Are (X) a part of any online communities dedicated to those hobbies?
LegalWho is (X) on paper? What names, phone numbers, and addresses is (X) tied to? Do any of (X) accounts have this information? ( I will make a list of several in reference.)
CareerDoes (X) job require an online activity, a website, or a social media account for business or otherwise? Would there be a problem if those sites overlapped with (X).
The table above was copy/pasted from another source, however, I felt it applied to this thread well and decided to rip it.

Falsified information
This applies solely to the realm of avoiding doxxing.

One of the most effective ways to send your attackers on a wild goose chase is to plant false information.

You can start by setting up fake accounts on linkedin, facebook, instagram etc. You want them all to look real though, and you want your activity on a platform to lead back to them with ease. Go ahead, lie about where you work, lie about your age, lie about your name, and have a multitude of accounts that are built around that fake identity.

I'll make another post covering this in further detail.

"Dox" yourself
One other effective preventative measure is "doxxing" yourself. Akin to googling yourself. The difference here is that while you dig up your own info, you don't
publicly release it. You yourself know the best leads more than anyone, and using those can lead you to more that you were unaware of. You must eliminate every lead you find on yourself within reason and do your best to mitigate them if you cant. Google your username, search your own post history, analyze your own patterns of behavior online.

Forgetting the Basic rules...
We all remember it, we have all heard it a million times. We are not to post our real world information on the internet. Keep your names and addresses to yourself. Be weary of who you interact with, do not post images of yourself, where you live, or go to school. Remain cordial...
Because we have heard it so many times, we blow it off. If you fail to abide by it, and get screwed because of it, you are to blame. You could be forgiven if the information was revealed by accident, or if it was subtly indicated by a number of posts.
Think before you post.

just constantly lie about your personal info in ways that self contradict :chad:
