Is 17 too late for a palate expander

My ortho recomended hyrax and braces w elastics when i was 15 but my mom refused to get it because in her opinion It was BS and i also didnt know what a palate expander was at that time, now im back at the same ortho, almost 17, Will hyrax and braces with elastics help with my case? I have a deep bite
