is bonesmashing with hammer better?

I see different results with bruising, when I do it with my fist compared to a hammer, with a hammer my zyrgos dont bruise and instead turn red or just have small scars, but when I do it with fist my whole face just bruises and it looks like I have heavy eye bags. am I just hitting nerves or is hammer just better for coordination?
