Does having 20–25% body fat cause growth plates to close earlier than normal? I’m unsure if I should stay in a slight calorie surplus to support growth or try to cut to <20. I know that being overweight increases your estrogen levels that then cause plates to fuse earlier, but on the other hand, I also heard that being in a calorie deficit even if you hit all your macros and micros can slow down growth too and It feels like neither of them is right for me

personally I would cut, a deficit isn't going to mess with your development as long as it's not steep and you're not stupid lean. the fat on your body literally is still food with nutrition that your body will utilize.

Im not a scientist, but i think that if cutting, the energy stored in my fat will go just for essential needs and growing wont be in priority

there's more nuance than just your caloric intake. if you're in a stage of life in which you're growing you'll have hormonal signaling to grow and your body will still consider that an essential process.
