Why would it matter if its a status max or not? Getting a driving license and being able to drive to any place you want is great.

in high school yes, its going to give you a higher status, it has been this way for quite a long time
but after 18, not so much tbh

Depends on location, I found people from London don't generally have one until they're a bit older, I got mine at 17 and found people were impressed with it when I went to London, I still know some 25 year olds that never been in the driver's seat.
