I’m starting to consider it. Private equity and hedge funds are what I’m considering going into. But what will that path look like? What do I need to do to get in? How do I get those connections?

I would assume you would need to come from money to get into that. Might not always be the case but It does seem to be what is usually seen

I want to make good money. Finance is the most realistic way for me to escape the middle class

maybe if i actually make it otherwise it would be a waste
I think finance is interesting im a software developer and previously worked at a banking firm. I would mirin the finance bros walking around in suits but they seemed miserable to me. They all worked like 80 hours a week while using engineers only did 40 and ironically we were paid more but they had a much higher salary cap.

Tech is the true rags to riches field. Your connections, your background, your degrees, certificates all that is secondary. If you are good. You'll get paid well no matter what. But you need to be in the top 10-15% of engineers or you'll be a dime in a dozen

hey im a young guy with ambitions and you are looking like you do very well in life, so i may ask
you what u work as etc...

Yeah, you need to stand out nowadays with AI becoming ubiquitous. I always wanted to go onto computer science but I got scared when I heard everyone was getting laid off and I thought it would be better to go into finance. I’m still thinking but ai will only get more advanced. You can build websites and apps with Claude AI so easily

my dad completed his finance degree at melbourne high (most prestigious uni in aus) yet he went into business with his siblings going into the medical industry with my grandfarther also being a surgeon its become easier to expand for them too

That would never work. I tried selling websites I made with ai to a bunch of businesses that didn’t have any and they all just hung up or said they weren’t interested. You need to be cl+ for that

Oh. My family never went into finance or any field related. It’s gonna be harder for me to break in

Like I said you need to be in the top 10%. The competition is very brutal so if you are mediocre you will be nothing more than a small fish in a sea of applicants and struggle to get good jobs and will be stuck in dead end support roles

Tech is overall great. Great salary, good wlb, intellectually stimulating and different problems but you need to genuinely be in excited about technology and love coding and problem solving because if you want to stick around you need to constantly do up skilling, learning new stuff. If you just stick to the stuff they teach you in textbook you'll end up like the thousand of CS grads that endlessly complain about this field

So if someone wants to go into tech where else can they learn and research? College is one thing, but where else can you go to gain more insight
