Rich people are usually smarter than average too so there's that.

But yes there is often less hard work involved in the highest achievements than many typically assume. How many Magnus Carlsens exist who never become world champion chess players due to the simple fact they grew up in some fucked up country rather than a super prosperous stable country like Norway.

In that way yes the story of the guy that comes from nothing and works his way to the top of his field is basically a meme. It can happen but it's incredibly rare.

i agree yeah but i think following instructions all day, all week isnt necessarily hard work at all. most functioning people in society can get told what to do and follow commands. i guess to an extent the only exception to this would be a trade or something similar

id argue someone spending 2 hours on their own business, having to carve out their own path for example and make their own decisions is "harder" than 5 days of sitting at a table larping in excel

Depends. A lot of people are a lot less capable than you maybe assume they are. You may be over estimating your own competence relative to the average population. I used to feel the same way but the more I learn about intelligence I am coming to realize that many of the people I look down upon are probably working closer to their capacity than I previously assumed. It's not to say this doesn't then create a hierarchy, but it's not like most people can just "work harder" their way into a successful business or venture. They aren't trying to do these things because it would require more creativity, mental bandwidth and energy than they can muster after a long day of work.

Consider that carving out your own path, making your own decisions, is something that most people simply could not do even if they tried. Most people don't feel as oppressed by conformity and lack of agency as you do.

It depends on what field or industry. In the trades you’re paid hourly and with bonuses so yes, working more means making more money.

But if it’s not that clearly task based then I wouldn’t trust it. There’s not enough actual work in most office jobs so the corporate world is more about nepotism and sucking dick.
