is hell a place for eternal punishment and torture, or is the god's rejection of one what makes hell per se a painful punishment

ive been thinking a lot about this lately. I mean a loving and merciful god should have mercy upon even the most wicked sinister mad people, however instead they are sent to hell. it doesn't make any sense, i mean in a way it does since u reject god, but also if god is forgiving why would he punish someone eternally and cause them suffering? I feel like hell isnt a place where u are tortured physically but rather it is a state we call 'hell' when god rejects you for your bad-doings, and god's rejection is what makes it an eternal painful punishment. but also none of it make sense.

Even tho im a Christian, i cant tell u exactly how hell works, but this is my best try to explain it:

God gives you free will, so that u can decide what u want to do in ur life (be close to him or stray away from him). If u choose to stray away, then u have decided that when u die, u will be separated by God. I believe u know that hell is not that hot place full of lava and demons who physically torture u for the rest of eternity, but this is rather used to symbolise how awful separation from God is

At least this is my interpretation of it all, maybe im wrong idk

yes exactly
i was born to an islamic country hence i was taught hell is a place where people who rejected god will be punished eternally, and i agree with you. in last few years ive felt like hell is not a physical place, but rather a state where you are left with void and emptiness which is a state we call 'hell' and also that void and emptiness is what makes it a punishment, indicating all those could've been used metaphorically. but am not sure

unfortunately, its kinda sad that we will either be aware hell/heaven exists, or die and get into state of void instantly and not know we even died.

We need to send someone to heaven and hell and bring him back so that he describes us what he saw fr

i think he is too much of a coward for that
Id say we send some retard greycel that no one knows or cares about in case something goes wrong and they dont return, but i dont trust them like that, they wont tell the truth or they will somehow screw up the whole mission

i can be a martyr and sacrifice myself for the good :)

I think what makes it significant is that the damned are permanently cut off from any possibility of redemption; an eternal rejection with no expectation of improvement or escape.
In dante's inferno, the famous line engraved over the gates of hell is: Abandon all hope, you who enter here.

then that particular god isnt forgiving and merciful or loving at all, hes just evil and sadist.

God is fucking stacys in gandy heaven and only Chads are allowed in so all of us subhuman niggers get thrown in the depths of eternal torture to forever burn in our subhuman body.

That's indeed a reasoning for it, but god as explained in its theological context can not be judged by earthly morality. He who created the morality is beyond it

Hell is separation from god. We are already in hell.

Hell is just where you are away from God. Not a dantes inferno type hell but a spiritual eternal abistence from God.
