aromatase is what your body has to transform test into estrogen, with estrogen being what signals growth plates to close, when you take aromatase inhibitors it reduce the conversion of test into estrogen and allows your growth plates to stay open for longer

it won't do shit if your growth plates are already closed, and it has a couple of side effects so you always need to be careful

It is the most common, its is safer, works perfectly and it isn't as much aggressive, a standard dose might reduce up to 80% of estrogen which usually is ideal, because you do need estrogen for brain function and these kind of stuff.
Letrozole on another hand can reduce up to 95%, much stronger than anastrozole, which means more risks and side effects, so anastrozole is indeed on most cases the best option.
