Basically, a definitive indicator means that there's a linear correlation between two variables equal to 1.
So, if one thing happens, then the other is bound to happen.
Being stronger is a good indicator of increased muscle mass, assuming you mean how much muscle is on your frame, but there are other variables that contribute to how strong you are, so the relationship is not perfect, (less than 1).

In layman's terms, there are other reasons you might be/feel stronger, so you can't rely on being stronger for figuring out whether you have more muscle or not. You need to look at other things in your life that might be affecting your strength.
