A few people have told me that if I go through insurance for bimax surgery, the results probably won’t look as good aesthetically — apparently surgeons in that situation are more focused on fixing function and don’t put as much effort into making things look great. I’m still working with my ortho right now to see if insurance will cover it, but honestly, if going private and paying out of pocket means a noticeably better-looking result, I’d rather just do that.
