Is it a good thing to have an antegonial notch?

I'm asking because I'm going to bone-smash the bottom of my chin and make it taller. However, I'm very warry of this because I have a visible antegonial notch and I'm afraid that I will lose it if I bone-smash under my chin and make the whole mandible even (if this makes any since). So is an antegonial notch good or should I not worry about it?

But is a visible antegonial notch a good feature?

This depend in how much, I don't find a good trait honestly, but you can get conclusions yourself with this

Less gonial notch and more straighter mandible = better

So an antegonial notch is an indicator of downward growth?

no that's not true. Chewing gum a lot for example can give you an antegonial notch because it expands your ramus and gives the gonial a longer and rounder shape because of how your masseter muscles expand the gonials.
Take a look at this conversation I had with another guy on this site discussing about how chewing affects your ramus size and supraorbital ridge projection: https://looksmax.org/threads/there-...-ramus-and-browridge-size.64414/#post-1145758

So don't chew?

no. I forgot to mention that your mandible shape also depends on how your gonials are slanted. If they are slanted inwards then they can make your antegonial notch look worse and make your jaw looks narrower from the front because of the low bigonail breadth that you most likely have. Having outward slanted gonials can make your bigonial breadth look broader, can make your mandible look straighter (which means the antegonial notch is less visible) and in general it can give your jaw a more masculine and strong appearance. And a masculine, strong and wide jaw = more masculine face.

Yes it is very striking. Atleast if were talking about the same thing here

My gonials are either straight or slightly curved inwards (I vote the former rather than the later). Is there a way to get them to slant outwards?

I think yes. By widening your palate. Or else you have to do surgery.

That's awesome! I'm getting a palate expander for other things, but I'm glad this is one of those other things changes! Thanks!

no problem. But listen, don't hop on to palate expanders just because I said so. Do your own research first about how you can increase your jaw width and how you can make your gonials look more outwards slanted.

One last question, how long would you estimate the MM's mandible in lmfao's signature?

Definitely under 15 centimeters and definitely above 10. Mine is exactly 10 centimeters now. I think that Jordan Barrett himself has a 12 centimeter long mandible (from gonion to chin). 13 centimeters looks way too long. I think Barrett's mandible length should be from 10-12 centimeters considering he has insane forward growth.

Mine's around 10-11.5, in the pic it looks long asf. Lifefuel.

yeah. 10-11.5 means you must have good forward growth. Most people with decent forward growth have like 8-9.The thing with mandible length is that each centimeter matters. Lacking a single centimeter can make your mandible look short. Lucky enough I'm still 16, so I expect my mandible length to be longer when I'm fully grown.

Obviously better than negative antegonial notch like in bruxism cases, but angle shouldn't be far
