It seems to me that certain surgeries leave you vulnerable, and if you get into any fight in your life, you're gonna be "shattered", so, technically, the surgery has "too much of a cost", not in terms of money, but in terms of life.

Depends on which surgeries you are talking about and when in the recovery process. Yes within a few months Post-Op you are more vulnerable for physical violence but overtime it heals and that reduces the risk of any problems.
