pavements are full of normal people
Im just not being acknowledged so my reaction is to not to acknowledge others back
I recall a university professor who would always look straight of her directly

i have but crime rates in my country force me to be aware of surroundings and now i look at people automatically

I am aware. Or rather too aware of my surrounding when walking but its just i dont look at people in the face trying to make eye contact
