I don't think you should marry a woman you'd ever want to hit
Discipline through violence never works as much as it might seem logical
And the whole idea of disciplining your own wife is pretty bleak and outdated don't date someone you don't like as they are

Discipline is good but maybe not always through physical means

The way I see it, your wife is not a child, and as much as they were different in the past, modern marriage is meant to be an equal partnership, not a matter of a patriarch presiding over his wife. Women will just leave you if you treat them wrong unless you live in a traditional culture or horrifically abuse them into submission out of fear (which is a horrible thing).

As for children, physical discipline doesn't work (at least not as its meant to. It makes the child fear and resent the parent, and perhaps instinctually fear the forbidden behaviour too but it can circle back to them doing it more once they're free. Think girls who grow up in repressive households becoming whores when they're free, or sheltered kids becoming addicts when they leave home. It also makes them good at lying and tends to promote higher inhibition and neurotic behaviours as they age

Well first of all my wife is indeed a child. I do see your point on being equal in relationships and I disagree with a lot of traditional culture, especially the Islamic ones. I think the people who agree with the abusing partner want to make them scared and maybe its js some weird kink for them. Abusing children 100% doesnt work tho
