Is it okay to use "NB" as an acronym for "non-binary" if you are a Black person?

Is it okay to use "NB" as an acronym for "non-binary" if you are a Black person?

I recently read a post in a non-binary subreddit about how non-binary people should avoid using "NB" as an acronym because it also stands for "non-black." The point of their post was to educate others on how using "NB" for anything other than "non-black" is appropriation of the Black community and silencing their voices. Their post was meant to be speaking towards non-Black non-binary people, but it didn't address whether or not it's okay to use the acronym if you are a Black non-binary person. So...now I'm a bit confused.

Sorry if that background is a bit confusing. Essentially, my question is: Is it okay to use "NB" as an acronym for "non-binary" if you are a Black person?

I'm worried that I will come across as appropriative of the Black community despite being Black myself. I rarely mention my race online, and I don't put in my bios, so people don't often know that I am Black. I don't like "enby" or "enban," and I typically use "non-binary" or "NB" when referring to myself and others.

Are you a non-binary black person :feelskek: kek
