Is it smart to cut down bodyfat first before starting the gym?

while cutting to maintain your muscles you need more effort
being skinny and cutting is easier, youll lose muscle, but lesser amounts
you can literally ldar and lose fat

Yeah it is definitely the better idea to start off as lean as possible, then just try to maintain and slowly increase that

What ever you choose to do, do NOT BULK. Bulking is a scam for teenagers.

I bulked a lot when I was a teenager. I went from 130 lbs to 165 lbs at around 5'9" at the time (today I am 5'10.) BIG regret. I went from about 10% BF to 18% bodyfat. Now I am trying to get down to 15% bodyfat and its very hard. Whould have stayed at 155 (about 13% bodyfat) and kept my maintaine weight there.

I am a 30 year old man and I lifted weight/worked out since I was 15.

Bulking was my biggest regret.

my plan is to lean down and then start going to the gym and eat in a slight surplus

dieting is super easy, you just have to be informed on satiety foods beforehand. Rather than saying fuck im gonna eat less and understand nothing about nutrients but still try to lose fat.

I understand where you are coming from, but even high protein and high fiber foods don't keep me that full.

Its hard as fuck to be hungry like 24/7 when there is so much good food around. I should have no put on the weight in the first place

in my opinion starting the gym in general is a good start but do whatever u wanna do in the sense that if u wanna get bigger eat more but clean while consistenly going gym, if u wanna lose weight and leanmax which is honestly the better more appealing look you should consistently go gym maintain a calorie deficit with higher protein and less carbohydrates to maximise ur weightloss
