what ive learned in y10 bio is:

one gene is inherited from EACH parent however the trait shown depends on if its dominant or recessive

46 chromosomes in every cell, 23 pairs, each section of the DNA contains the genetic code determining eye color/hair color/nose type etc... So the stronger DNA prevails either of the mom or dad and that feature is then transfered to the foetus
