Is it true white people tan for darker looks?

Is it true that whites tan for darker looks? Then ethnics bleach for lighter looks. No one is satisfied it seems

tan with red undertone is the best coloring
ethnics dont have red undertones usually which makes a lot of difference

I've never seen a white guy pursue a tan, most acquire them naturally, white women actively try to tan though, at least in the US
