I told my mom I'm an indian dalit and said I can't say this. I said why, I am brown and ugly so in short indian but she still refuse to call me indian. Who is in the wrong here?

Otherwise an Arab or Turk and an Italian/Spaniard with the same pheno would have the same SMV and treatment but they don’t.

If you’re racially ambiguous people will try very hard to ascertain what you are so they can classify you in one category or the other.

My name is not a common Indian name. I’ve gotten guess of everything from Brazilian, Mexican, to Arab to Native American (real wtf for that one). I’ve had people get excited thinking I’m Brazilian or Mexican and then get disappointed when I tell them I’m Indian.

There’s been a grand total of twice where I’ve had a positive reaction to someone saying I’m Indian. One was a Carribean black guy who listened to Indian music and the other was an old North African guy who liked Mahatma Gandhi since he fought against colonialism.
