yes, the central midface on an east asian skull is retruded

the misconception comes from also hypoplastic nasal tissue—bone and/or cartilage—east asians usually have,
but that isnt a big issue since asian rhinoplasty is pretty much a solved game when it comes to soft tissue and nasal bones

asian rhinoplasties can yield really good results when it comes to mimicking caucasian cartilage and nasal bone, but still won't be very aesthetic if its lacking facial depth. water.

Caucasians have a decent amount of cake layers (maxilla) and a decent amount of frosting (cartilage and nasal bone)
Asians have a smaller amount of cake layers and a varying amount of frosting, which is stereotypically little

to make the cake bigger and aesthetic, rhinoplasties fix the frosting issue, lefort 2 fixes the cake layers
