Is longer hair mainly only for young men?

As I'm going into my 30s now and getting older and uglier and my hair is getting thinner, is it a failo to still have longer hair?

I used to have hair somewhat like this when I was younger (at its longest):

Obviously I don't look as good as Patrick Swayze or Solid Snake, but my looks level was enough to look decent with this longer hairstyle.

My reasoning is that my balding now looks a lot worse when I buzz it down really short like Prince William:

But when I keep it grown out longer, the hairs layer on top of each other and give the appearance of more density.

Is it better for older men to have a regular medium length haircut like this?:

I'm asking because I believe you need a certain level of hair density combined with either prettyboy looks or rugged masculine looks to pull off the longer hair, which I think a lot of older men do not possess.

With my current level of balding, my hair is looking more and more like this:

I'm wondering if I should keep it like this, or trim it shorter like this:

No, I decided not to.

I don't want to do that either. I just want to find the best way to go bald gracefully while making the most of what hair I still have left.
Why not? Why not live your best life bruh
