There is so much nepotism in tech, I would even say it's almost as much as finance. There are curries in the slums of india that are more intelligent and more talented than the people in high paying positions. The nepotism in tech is usually for lower skilled jobs, but it does also make it easier to climb the ladder, you won't get high paying important positions but you will have an easier path, more access to people who will train you for free etc.
