Iranians are some of the most secular people in the world. Fuck the news - they make out to look Iran like some super conservative country (sure some people are) but there is a HUGE divide. This is a country that used to ban the hijab and made their women wear skirts and men suits so "westerners wouldn't laugh at us".

Doesn't surprise me. Go to r/Iran they're all self-haters. I've met so many Iranians they'll do and say anything to remove their Muslim heritage.

Even if I was Iranian I wouldn't be ashamed of their rich Islamic history - yes Persian history is also pre-Islamic but so is Arabic and Turkish.

Turkish people in the West used to be the same. But it's taken a few drama shows (Ertegrul Gazi) and Erdogan to reclaim their past pride.

She grew up in the Netherlands, not Iran. Some people found her parents Facebook pages and saw that they post a bunch of Christian stuff. I don't know if they converted before or after coming to Europe but I've heard of people in Muslim countries converting to Christianity so they can seek asylum in the west. Not saying that's the case with her family here but point is not all Iranians are Muslim and majority of the ones outside of Iran are not practicing Muslims.
