I’m 15, 5’11 and I started lifting on September 1st of 2025, and I was cutting until February, my goals are to maingain/recomp so is anything over 180 grams of protein a day too much? And what’s the optimal amount of protein to eat to prevent extra protein going into fat stores.

Please let me know.

Depends on your fiber intake and your fat %. Most people just take 1 gram per pound of lean mass (BW - (BW*fat%)). Taking too much protein will genuinely have you shitting rocks so make sure to keep up with proper fiber intake

Your question cannot be answered because your protein requirements depend on your fat free mass / non-fat mass. We do not know this.

Here is a simple rule:

2.2 grams of protein per 1 kilogram of fat free mass / non-fat mass for individuals that do natural bodybuilding style training.

Example: Total body mass is 100 kilograms and body fat percentage is 20 percent, so 80 kilograms is the mass without fat or fat free mass, so multiply 80 by 2.2 to equal 176 grams.

I’m probably between 155-165 pounds and I’m pretty lean but just barely not lean enough to see my abs so possibly 16 percent body fat?

You might be 160 pounds or 72.574 kilograms. You said your body fat percentage is 16, so your fat free mass is 60.962 kilograms.

60.962 x 2 = 121.924 grams of protein per day.

60.962 x 2.2 = 134.1164 grams of protein per day.

Pick one of those two options. That answers your question. Be sure to like both my comments and / or mark as solution.

You need to be eating carbs and vegetables too. Follow ergogenics advice for protein, you just don't wanna be shitting bricks
