Higher testosterone blunts empathetic responses and increases willingness to engage in confrontations over status. High prenatal testosterone exposure increases risk taking and reward sensitivity.

Through these pathways testosterone increases the risk of psychopathy but it doesn't account for the whole picture.

Psychopathy can manifest in multiple ways as it is merely the appearance of a cluster of traits, traits that can influenced by a variety of factors

Very low baseline arousal/amygdala dysfunction (reduced fear response, increased boredom)

High approach behavior (high sensitivity to reward)

Low empathy

Testosterone impacts all of these things but you can have these traits without high testosterone. This is why violent men dominate prison populations but not all violent prisoners are psychopaths. The psychopaths we usually hear about are those who have this trait cluster in the most extreme, usually leading to extreme behaviors that attract attention.
