For those who don't know what ru58841 is,it's a topical androgen receptor antagonist competing with other androgens in the scalp for binding to the receptor and preventing dht and testosterone from binding to the androgen receptor thus preventing hair miniaturization(in theory). It's non-steroidal.There are some studies of ru58841 done on animals which show it's efficacy;https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9415227
RU5884 is capable of blocking 70% from DHT binding by inhibiting the androgen receptor. When compared with the anti-androgen cyproterone acetate RU58841 showed 20% increased binding to the androgen receptor. In a study researchers compared the anti-androgen effects of RU58841 with other known anti-androgens like hydroxyflutamide and biculatamide in human prostate cells and showed that RU58841 demonstrated similar effects. In another study researchers applied 5% topical RU58841 to the bald scalp of stumptail macaques. The stumptail macaques who were treated with RU58841 displayed progression from telogen to anagen and an increase in hair follicle size as opposed to the control group. No systemic side effects were reported in the study. They described RU58841 as having ““remarkable effects on hair and folliclar regrowth in the bald frontal scalp of macaques.”Researchers performed another study on the macaque model where they examined the effects of RU58841 versus finasteride. They looked at follicular regrowth and serum level of T and DHT. They concluded that RU58841 appeared to suppress T/DHT induced follicular regression more effectively than finasteride. RU58841 also did not induce any significant changes on T and DHT levels.
After the 6 month human clinical trial they had the following to say about RU58841:
“Six months of treatment with PSK 3481(RU58841) demonstrated equivalent or better net hair growth compared with finasteride”
Resource:
1.It's far from being as effective as Finasteride in humans. All these studies don't reflect the reality therefore these companies didn't want to waste their money by investing in such a bullshit compound.
2.It's really as effective as it's claimed to be and don't produce sexual side effects, however it has different nasty sides and not safe in the long term such as involving carcinogenic metabolites.
3.It's really more effective or at least has an efficacy equivalent of 1 mg Finasteride but it's not stable in ethanol and has a really short shelf-life thus it's not logical investing in such a compund. However, this option doesn't exclude ru58841 from being effective as a home-made solution since you can prepare your own solution daily with ethanol and things like kb.Shelf-life is problematic for companies.
