Nah, Viets Cambos, Laotians, and Thais are much closer to East Asians. Especially Viets. And how could China not Count? I hope you're not reffering to me. I always had tons of money everywhere I went in SEA. Made lots of money as well. As for the backpackers, I was never one of those. I hung out with criminals, fugitives, and drug smugglers (mostly English chaps). Never went to tourist sites. Lived in China for about 7 collective years and never once went to see the great wall or that place in Xian with all the clay soldiers. Lived in Cambodia for a year and a half and never went to Ankor Wat. And I hate that stupid Buffalo Soldier song.

I like them as a fixture in SEA, but I don't really like to mingle or smoke weed with them. Some of them can be pretty cool, but you gotta separate yourself from them and be a different class of expat or traveler. If you don't you'll always be poor, which should go without saying. On top of that you won't really learn anything usefull about whichever country you're staying in if you're part of that crowd.

The thing about them though is they really only keep to themselves. They're transient and don't really want to be like the locals, despite all the peace, love, and unity (we are all one) type of sh*t they preach. They might shave their heads and convert to Buddhism on a whim, which only causes the locals laugh at them behind their backs, but that's usually the beginning of the ends of their stays. 1 - 4 months later they'll be begging their parents for a ticket back home where they'll forget everything and go to college.
