Depends on how much you are sacrificing to study (short-term money, social time, energy/effort which cant be used for other things, environment).

And how much you are gaining by doing those studies (how passionate are you about it, how much energy/effort it is costing you, how you see it benefiting your future).

It's not dumb to take a gap-year, doing something entirely different for a while, when you are unsure what to do.
Just don't rot away the year or spend it mindlessly slaving away at a shitty job etc.

When I was in college, I put good hours in studying but in private i.e. make it look effortless and you just understand the subject naturally. How? Study mornings, socialise/party/smoke in the evenings
