Is tan overrated?

is tan overrated? Or is it an essential looksmax? And does it affect SMV from country to country? When I go on vacay I see all those females hunting for the best tanning spot.

I think with the westernization of the current worlds beauty standards rice countries would eventually prefer tan. Btw what countries really appreciate a good tan?
