Is teachercelling worth it

I’m thinking I do this after graduating for a few years then head to Hong Kong or Gulf country. Is this viable?

It’s brutal because I have to deal with getting bullied by NT teenagers at average UK school, but the opportunity to make fresh start in a chill Asian country seems worth. Unless it’s hyper competitive (ropefuel)

That way I can fully cut off my family, any old ties (very few tbh) and enjoy being a complete loner

If you have the social battery for it, sure! The school culture in East Asia is completely different, mind you, but at least the students will respect you. In the west, students in general won’t respect you. However, from what I know, you will have to have a degree before you can teach. In China, you need to be a licensed teacher if you want to teach. Your race and nationality are important too.

Sounds like the UK, apparently you only need a bachelor’s and one year worth of training. Although 120 hours is a lot easier.

Another exception is being white, your English can be dogshit but since it looks like you’re *supposed* to be speaking good English, you’ll get hired. Even if you have a thick accent and can’t spell properly.

Yeah I was the one who said that. A teaching licence costs around £9000 though (you can probably get a government loan, I haven’t researched much), and my TEFL course cost £120. The best jobs abroad will always require you to be a qualified teacher in your own country tho

The expenses are similar to mine: we pay €10K for the bachelor’s to get licensed. And yes, that’s true: the best jobs (abroad) will always require you to be qualified. In the past, it wasn’t always like this but it has since then become an oversaturated market.
